Grilled Chicken in 5 Flavors with Rice

(Cơm Gà Nướng Ngũ Vị Hương) - Grilled Chicken in 5 Flavors with Rice which comes from many amazing Vietnamese Dish Recipes.

When marinate 5 specific flavors into chicken meat, it will create a great flavor ever which you have not a chance to taste before.


- Chicken thighs: 2 big
- 1 small bag 5 flavors flour – 5gr (Ngũ Vị Hương) – Buy at Vietnamese Markets
- Salt, oyster oil, sesame oil, fish sauce, honey, sugar, soya sauce
- Garlic, purple onion
- Cucumber, tomato
- Rice.: 2 bowls


- Clean chicken thighs, soak in hot water in 1 – 2 minutes and clean again. Boil water and add chicken thighs into pot to boil in 5 minutes. Next, put them on basket, use napkin to absorb all water. Do not throw away chicken broth. 

- Peel off the cover of garlic, purple onion. Mince well. 

- Use knife to cut slightly some lines on face of chicken thighs. Next, marinate with minced garlic, purple onion, 1 teaspoon salt, oyster oil, sesame oil, 1 tablespoon fish sauce, 1 teaspoon honey and 1 tablespoon sugar, 1 teaspoon soya sauce. 

- Use your hands to spread all mixture spices on face of chicken thighs. Cover carefully and put in fridge. Wait through 1 night. 

- Clean rice in 2 – 3 times. Pour rice + chicken broth in step 1 (make sure it can cover all rice) + a little fried purple onion into pot.

- Bring rice to cook. Sometime use wood chopsticks to stir well. 

- Next day, bring chicken thighs to grill in 180 degree. Sometime, use brush to spread mixture spices on face of chicken thighs. Grill in 45 – 50 minutes and their skins will turn brown yellow.
- Scoop 2 – 3 tablespoons boiled rice into bowl, press firmly and put on plate. Add more grilled chicken thighs, sliced cucumber, tomato and soya sauce is perfect.
